LINGUISTIC VARIATION IN PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE TEACHING IN TEXTBOOKS

The production of this work was carried out as a way of concluding the elective discipline of the Master's, Principles of Educational Sociolinguistics. The research aims at describing how linguistic variation in Brazilian Portuguese is taught in schools within their teaching materials. At first, the theme of school practices with the Portuguese language with the students, based on the practices of the authors Cyranka and Scafutto. On the one hand, these students complain that teaching Portuguese is “very difficult”, and on the other, teachers classify it as “not very capable”, thus worsening when it comes to speakers of less prestigious dialects, considered wrong. In a second moment, it is defined in the school environment what it is to teach a standard language or a cultured language based on the ideas of Faraco (2008) since the varieties occur in more monitored uses of the language by different social segments.
