Abstract

This article aims to show a brief synthesis of three French philosophers who contributed greatly to the studies of humor. The first of them is Bergson (1859-1941), whose 1899 publication (Laughter), for being a landmark in the French academic field on humor, the comic and laughter in modernity,  achieved popularity in university circles in the years following publication and has been a constant reference today. The second is François Rabelais (1483-1553), with the publication “Gargantua and Pantagruel” of 1532, during the Renaissance, whose analysis of Bakhtin put it into circulation in academic circles. The third and last philosopher is George Minois (1946), with the book “History of Laughter and Derision” (2002), which presents a general overview of the theme from Classical Antiquity to the present.
