THE REVIEW ON INSTAGRAM: links between re-elaboration and style

This article investigates the re-elaboration of the review genre when published on the social media platform Instagram, examining how the both individual and genre styles are expressed in this transformation. To achieve this aim, we analyze a post from the profile @leitor.em.acao, which discusses A hora da estrela, a classic of Brazilian literature by Clarice Lispector. The study is grounded in Bakhtin's (2016) theory speech genres, as further developed and recontextualized by Brazilian scholars such Zavam (2009; 2012), Costa (2010) and Azevedo and Pereira (2022), particularly concerning the concept of re-elaboration. We also draw on the theoretical contributions of Marcuschi (2008) and Bezerra (2022), especially regarding the notion of textual support and its implications for generic innovation. The findings reveal that re-elaboration the review genre for Instagram entails significant stylistic shifts, with greater room for individual expression due to the affordances oh the platform – such as the integracion of imagens – despite the constraints imposed by the medium.
