Abstract

Body, Culture, and Action: (Re)thinking School Physical Education," is a crucial work for those interested in the relationship between school physical education, the body, culture, and action. The book explores how the body, as the central element, expresses individuals and their relations with the world and culture. Culture influences how the body is perceived and valued in different social contexts, affecting how physical education is practiced in schools. The authors argue that physical education is fundamental in students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development, but it must consider diverse cultural conceptions of the body and open space for dialogue. The book provides theoretical and practical perspectives, with nine chapters discussing topics such as the relationship between sport, media, and culture, the importance of teacher training and critical reflection, and the role of physical education in educating young children. The authors advocate for a more critical and reflective approach to physical education, emphasizing the need to respect the diverse cultural body of movement in its language dimension.
