INDIVIDUAL STYLE AND GENDER STYLE IN THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTION OF ACADEMIC REVIEWS

In this article, we discuss the relationship between genre and style, based on the analysis of data from the process of constructing academic reviews produced by university students, in which we will observe the relationship between the writers and the genre produced, with a view to verifying the influence of the genre's style on their choices and the possibility of manifestation of the individual style in an apparently more standardized genre. To do this, we start from the assumption that style is a phenomenon that occurs through a process of choices made in living discursive communication and that involves social, historical, cultural and ideological factors - according to the socio-discursive approach to style undertaken by the Bakhtin Circle, and we assume that style is, at the same time, individual and collective and that there are more standardized genres and genres that are more flexible to subjective inputs (Bakhtin (2016) [1952-1953]). Our data show that it is the style of the review genre that controls the writers' linguistic choices, but, even so, they manage to cross it, in order to leave marks of their individual style in their texts, which happens thanks to the relatively stable character of discursive genres.
